My Houseplant Plant Collection | Cribs: Plant Lady Edition
I debated back and forth on whether to do this post or not. Then, after scrolling through feeds and feeds of plant collections on Instagram, I decided that I very much wanted to do a post like this... because I wish more people did! (LET ME SEE YOUR PLANTS, people!) So, Welcome to MMM CRIBS: Plant Lady Edition. Am I hip, yet?
Living Room Plants
I'll start with my first plant, ever. Her name is "Granny Ivy" because my mom started her for me when my Granny died in 1999, although technically she's a golden pothos. She's been through a lot of stress, but she's recently found a happy place in this north-east window. I'm dreaming of the days where her legs almost touch the floor. Until then, I'll just admire her waxy green variegated leaves. In the bright corner next to the ivy is my second love, my Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree. My husband surprised me with her for my birthday last year and I have cherished her ever since. So far, she's put out 5 new leaves, and that tickles me pink! Because of the direction of her new growth, she has a bit of a lean, but I'm crossing my fingers she'll even out eventually. In a darker spot on the same wall as the window, I have my Peace Lily. It's one of the plants I got when my mom died and it's really special to me because a group of our friends sent it. It has bloomed and bloomed and bloomed. I just repotted it, and I think it's in a little bit of shock, but I'm giving it TLC until it bounces back fully... but here's a photo of it from a few weeks ago, when it was in it's original pot and happy as a clam.On our console table sits a pretty pink nerve plant - a Pink Angel Fittonia. It adds a pop of color to the neutral space and I love that. We don't have a ton of sentimental attachment, yet, because she's fairly new, but looking over at her vibrant leaves brings me a lot of joy and she's the perfect table top plant. Oh, and we can't forget these little guys! My air plants sit along the half wall between our living areas. They're so unique and cute. I like these spidery little guys. My sister gifted me this terrarium for my birthday last year and it makes me so happy.
Bedroom Plants
The first plant I put in our bedroom was the ficus tree. I believe it's a Weeping Fig, but I don't know for certain. It's another plant that someone sent when my mom died, very sweetly. I love its small dark green leaves. This plant gives me a heart attack daily because some leaves are always in a state of turning yellow, but yet it persists. (EDIT: After I drafted this post it EXPLODED with new little leaves! YAY!) On my bedside table, I have this sweet little polka dot plant. It's very similar to the little White Angel Fittonia. I saw him in the grocery store floral department, looking cute, and I brought him home with me. In our guest room on the dresser is where our Zebra Plant lives. He's a loner. He likes it in there. He was another grocery store pick up.
Bathroom Plants
If I could keep an orchid alive, it would live in the bathroom... but I cannot, so instead I have a beautiful jade plant. I got it from Trader Joe's (their floral section is to die for and I could pick up 20 plants with every visit). Last month it had a mealybug infestation, which I aptly cured with rubbing alcohol and death vibes.Zinnia and Dahlia sprouts. These aren't quite flowers yet, but they're growing every day! I started these seeds mid-March and they're coming along nicely!
My Project Plants
These don't technically have a designated space yet because I'm working to rehabilitate them. They were CLEARANCE section plants at Lowe's, and y'all... I could not just leave them there to die. They were marked down to $1 each, and I considered it my duty to botany to take them home and love them. First is the dracaena - a White Jewel. It came to me with some brown spotted leaves, but promising new growth! I gave it a nice lukewarm shower and set it in a bright spot. Next is the Royal Hustler Ivy (doesn't that sound saucy?!). He had lost a few leaves, and I'm assume that's why he was in the clearance section. He looks pretty healthy though, just not as full as others. I'm working to fix that, though! He got a shower, too, and he's currently crashing next to the pink nerve plant.
Outdoor Plants
... ok, I'm going to have to stop somewhere, so this is it. Would you be interested in seeing my outdoor plants?
Houseplants make me really happy. When I'm feeling blue, I look through Instagram plant feeds or I go to a garden center and just surround myself with plants for a while. I hope this post spread a little bit of green happiness your way - that was the intention. My ultimate goal is to just make my home into a jungle. I wonder if my husband will go for that? Thanks for letting me share my houseplant collection with you! May your plants grow large and your house smell fresh (yeah, that sounded better in my head).
